DAVAO CITY COMMEMORATES 89TH ARAW NG DABAW
Davao City marks its 89th founding anniversary today, March 1, honoring its historic transition into a chartered city nearly nine decades ago.
The city was officially established through Commonwealth Act No. 51 after then President Manuel L. Quezon approved House Bill No. 609 on October 16, 1936. The legislation, authored by former Davao assemblyman Romualdo C. Quimpo, paved the way for Davao’s formal inauguration on March 1, 1937—later declared a special public holiday across the then undivided Province of Davao.
As the city celebrates Araw ng Dabaw 2026, residents reflect on 89 years of growth, cultural diversity, and continuing development, reaffirming Davao’s place as one of Mindanao’s leading urban centers.
